What is Cub Scouts?
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting,
a family- and home-centered program for boys in the first through
fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years old). Cub Scouting's emphasis is on a quality,
year-round family program at the local level, where the most boys and families are involved.
Fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys are called Webelos (WE'll BE LOyal
Scouts) and participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them
to become Boy Scouts.
Parents, leaders, boys, friends, and
organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently,
Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions (the others
are Boy Scouting and Venturing) and Cub Scouting is where it all begins.
